Special Olympics hosts successful Eastern Region Athletics Event

In June 2025, Special Olympics Eastern Region teamed up with Active Norfolk to host a regional athletics and football event at UEA Sportspark.

​The day was a fantastic success and saw athletes competing and having fun.

Athletes from various counties took part in a series of multi-sports events, all supported by amazing volunteers and supporters on the day.

Sports included running, football, mini javelin, softball, long jump and more!

​"I've made friends through Special Olympics. I was a little bit shy at first... but not any more." said one of the athletes who competed in the 100m sprint. 

"Special Olympics have brought an amazing sort of unity together." Mick from Special Olympics Essex. "It's smiles on faces, everyone as an equal, and ultimately seeing people enjoy themselves is what we're here for."
